Mormon Prom
On the thirtieth of May history was made at the Waterloo in Mission Viejo California. Mormon Prom, a local band whose members include Mickey Belmer (vocals), Parker Harvey (bass), Nick Susee (drums), and Tom Eppel (guitar). The band’s members are from Rancho Santa Margarita and Melinda Heights.
The show was packed and the crowd was full of energy as Mormon Prom set up for the show. “It was pretty nerve racking,” Harvey explained, “only because it was my first time playing in front of an audience.” According to the people at the show, Mormon Prom “brought the crowd.” The audience was in for a big surprise.
Mormon Prom came out in dresses and assorted clothes which set the mood for the show. Belmer was wearing leopard skin underwear and tights, Harvey was wearing overalls, Eppel was wearing a flower dress, and Susee was wearing short shorts. Also many friends in the crowd were dressed up in dresses and suspenders looking the part. Their set list consisted of “Bullet in Your Head,” “Surfin Bird,” and three originals: “Potty Trained,” “Necro,” and another not appropriate for mentioning on a school website.
The show was out of control and a torrent of group vocals and breakdowns was amongst everyone. The atmosphere was humid anxious and joyful. Tables were broken, furniture was destroyed and it looked as though a stampede of Water Buffalo had just run through that coffee shop. At the end everyone was full of excitement, worn out, and ready to get home. After the show there was a chance to talk to someone of the people at the show.
“That was the most fun I have had in a long time,” says David Haize. “The Bullet in your head cover was sick!” exclaimed Troy Ritchie. “That was great!” yelled Toa Do. Mormon Prom was a hit and everyone is asking when their next show is. No date has been given out yet but we will keep you posted.
