Jo-Ann Kane
4th Grade Teacher
Melinda Heights Elementary School, SVUSD
I was born and raised in Southern California. I graduated from El Toro High School, which is located in the district where I now teach.
I have been teaching elementary school for eleven years. My first three years of teaching were spent in Lynwood, California, in the Lynwood Unified School District. My classes were made up of Spanish speaking students, which was the reason why I decided to obtain my CLAD certificate. I transferred to the Saddleback Valley Unified School District in 1996, where I taught at Cielo Vista Elementary School. In 1998, I was given the opportunity to help open Melinda Heights Elementary School. This is my sixth year on the fourth grade team. I think that it is the best grade to teach because I always get the best students in the school!
I love teaching fourth grade because I get to introduce students to California's rich and diverse history. I try to do activities that bring history to life. It is not unusual to see the fourth grade teachers at our school dressed up as an Indian Chief, Queen Isabella, or even a Miner '49er!
In my free time, I enjoy learning to read and speak Spanish. I also enjoy spending time with my daughter, Jennifer. Our favorite activities are going to the park and playing on the computer.
