Changes in Transportation Fees

June 2008

Dear Parents,

The packets found below include information regarding the District’s co-curricular transportation program.  As a result of the State’s fiscal crisis and the subsequent impact that it has on the District financial resources, all programs have been scrutinized to determine if they operated without encroaching on the general fund.

An analysis of the co-curricular transportation program revealed that the program was costing the district approximately $140,000 more than we received for running the program.  Specific analysis indicated that some co-curricular activities were costing far more for transportation than others.  As a result some of the programs were placed under a new group designation (i.e. moved from Group II to Group I).  Additionally, after keeping costs at the same price for almost 20 years the District has been forced to raise co-curricular transportation fees in an effort to close the financial shortfall of providing this service.  Please note that student maximums and family maximums have also been raised.

The District is sensitive to the financial hardship that this new fee structure might have on some families therefore we will continue to provide a confidential extra-curricular group transportation fee waiver application in every packet.  If you have questions about this application, please contact the assistant principal in charge of business services at your high school.

Sincerely yours,

Ray A. Gatfield, Ph.D.
