CTE COURSES/TECH PREP PROGRAM

Career Technical Education (CTE) is designed to engage all stuents in a dynamic learning experiene resulting in their mastery of the career and academic knowledge and skills necessary to become productive, contributing members of society. CTE provides all students with full access to high-quality offerings. CTE serves the career preparation needs and interests of students, industry, labor and communities, while promoting workforce and economic development. CTE prepares students to master the necessary technical, academic, employability, decision-making, and interpersonal skills to make the transition to meaningful postsecondary education and employment.
There are 15 industry sectors covering CTE. SVUSD courses and/or Coastline ROP classes on our campuses include the following sectors:

• Agriculture and Natural Resources
• Arts, Media, and Entertainment
• Building Trades and Construction
• Education, Child Development, and Family Services
• Engineering and Design
• Fashion and Interior Design
• Finance and Business
• Health Science and Medical Technology
• Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation
• Information Technology
• Marketing, Sales, and Service
• Public Services
• Transportation
  
  The Statewide Career Pathways is a plan to articulate coures between high schools, Regional Occupational Programs, and colleges. Therefore, CTE classes taken in high school will prepare students for classes taken in 2-year and 4-year colleges.
  
  Articulation Agreements are currently in place with Saddleback College for many of the SVUSD CTE classes (referred to at the college as Tech Prep classes). These agreements prepare students to advance to the next higher level in that course sequence. In addition, students who receive an A or B in any of these classes will be given college credits. These lists are updated every year and additional classes are added, so students should check with their teachers. SVUSD has begun the process of articulating with Irvine Valley College as well as Mt. Sac College and will continue looking for opportunities to articulate with others.
