Serrano News:

We Did It!
The world's longest ice cream sundae was 222 feel and 9-3/4 inches long and it was built (and eaten) at Serrano!  Over 400 students, friends, staff and community members participated in this event to help set this record! The STPO Spring Fling event was a tremendous success.  In addition to the ice cream sundae challenge, a rummage sale, gourmet food trucks, DJ, bake sale, carnival games, and authentic sports competitions kept the 1000+ crowds happy.  I big thank you to Daria Navarro and all the STPO/parent volunteers that helped make this event a success which raised money for our school.  Also, a big thank you to Marvin Lim for donating the prizes for the sports competitions.

Cogratulations to Ms. MacDonald and the Serrano Advanced Band
The Advanced Orchestra qualified to compete in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association Regional Festival.  Only the top school ensembles from around southern California receiving "Superior" ratings at district festivals were invited to compete at the regional level. Our Serrano Advanced Orchestra not only qualified, but did so by attaining the highest rating possible (Unanimous Superior and a Superior in Sight Reading).

Serrano's 18th Annual International Week was a huge success.  Ms. Pedroza did an amazing job of organizing this big event.  A special thanks to Ms. Suter for organizing the kick-off assembly.  But, we could not have pulled it off without you, our fabulous Serrano parents - thank you!!!  All in all, over 277 students shared their culture as part of a booth, 60 students performed in the assembly, 34 PAL students made the posters and organized the sign-ups, 33 ASB students sold tickets and played music at each lunch, 25 teachers held meetings and organized booths,  our lunch ladies graciously offered their ovens and refrigerators to store food, and of course, countless parents and staff helped make food, set-up, serve, and clean up.  We raised over $2,300 which will be used to help fund special projects at Serrano!

Expect Respect Anti-Bullying Program
On January 23 and 24, Mr. Freda met with groups of students throughout the day to discuss Serrano's anti-bullying program called Expect Respect. The message is clear: students need to expect respect from others. When someone is not behaving in a respectful manner, the student needs to tell that person STOP. If the disrespectful behavior continues, the person needs to WALK away. If it continues a third time, they need to TALK to an adult on campus. Click Here to view the presentation. During the upcoming weeks, students will also receive mini-lessons about gossip, inappropriate remarks, physical aggression /threats, purposely excluding/ignoring others, and cyber-bullying.

A special thanks to Repicci's Italian Ice for donating free Italian Ice coupons for our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) rewards for students who demonstrate Ready, Responsible and Respectful behavior. Visit Repicci's at 23022 La Cadena Dr., Suite 103 in Laguna Hills!

A special thanks to Avila's El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant for donating free meals to our Student of the Month winners. Please visit Avila's at 24406 Muirlands Blvd. in Lake Forest!
